CHÉ GUEVARA MEMORIAL AND MAUSOLEUM

Visit the final resting place of Ché Guevara and twenty-nine of his fellow soldiers, buried here after a failed uprising in Bolivia.


Revered by his comrades, reviled by his enemies, the face and name of Ernesto "Ché" Guevara are known across the world. Here, in a memorial and plaza that bares his name, Ché is laid to rest alongside twenty-nine of his brothers-in-arms. Its location in Santa Clara was chosen in remembrance of the Battle of Santa Clara, where Ché lead the Cuban Revolution’s decisive victory against the country’s dictator. 

In late 1966, Ché traveled undercover to Bolivia in an effort to create and uprising and overthrow the country’s military dictatorship. But less than 12 months later, he was captured with the help of CIA operatives and executed by Bolivian soldiers.
