Running the Marabana Havana Marathon

Running a marathon is exhilarating enough—but what if you could travel to a foreign country and enjoy a unique perspective on the event? Cuba’s Marabana Havana Marathon may be the perfect option. You can now run it legally, thanks to insightCuba.

Where the Marathon Will Take You:

  • Run along Havana’s seaside Malecón which separates the ocean and some of the city’s most precious architecture.
  • Pass through Havana Vieja (Old Havana), where you will take in some of Latin America’s most fabulous Spanish colonial architecture, deemed a UNESCO Heritage site.
  • Marvel at the classic American automobiles and Russian cars.
  • Run past the city’s many monuments and sites including the Capitolio, Museum of the Revolution, Revolution Square, and the Fortaleza de San Carlos de la Cabaña, the famous fort at the mouth of Havana harbor.

Marathon History

The first Havana Marathon was run in 1987. Most Americans have not been able to take part because of travel restrictions and the U.S. Embargo Against Cuba.

Thanks to insightCuba’s amateur sports license issued by the U.S. Department of the Treasury Office of Foreign Assets Control, you can participate legally in a pursuit few other Americans have enjoyed. It will not be just another marathon to complete. It will be one to remember.

You Don’t Even Have to Be a Runner

The Havana Marathon is not just for full marathoners. You can participate in the full event, half marathon or even a 10K. There’s even a quick “fun run” the day before the big race called the Maracuba that lots of Cuban's participate in.
